Local delish from from Northland Organics

JUST received in from Northland Organics (Farmer Dave Massey - Pequot Lakes):

* lovely varieties of heirloom winter squash:
     Sweet Keeper - green-gray in color and more flat, interior pulp deep yellow-orange  VERY Nice sweet - can even grate it raw for salads! High in beta carotene and makes a great pumpkin pie;
     Sunshine (a deep orange exterior) Similar in appearance to a pumpkin, this variety of squash is a Kabocha winter squash that has a bright reddish-orange skin. Good for baking, the golden orange flesh is a tender stringless flesh, provides a sweet nutty flavor as a side dish, as a filling for pies, as a soup squash, or when prepared in baked goods
     Hokkaida Blue - blue-gray-green similar in color to Sweet Keeper though a bit more round (The insides of Hokkaido are much cleaner than a sugar pumpkin. Almost no stringy material, and even sweeter than a pie pumpkin).

If grown, harvested, and stored (best at 50-55 degrees) correctly, a winter squash can stay good all through 8 months after its taken from its dried up vines. That is an amazing fact, considering it doesn’t take much effort at all to “grow, harvest and store correctly which Farmer Dave is expert at!

Also from Farmer Dave (Northwoods Organics)
* sweet yellow onions
* Sweet Italian Ancient Peppers also known as Conche de Torro (Bull's Horn) - sweet, crunchy green pepper. VERY nice!
* Satina Potatoes - nice, firm, softer yellow in color flesh (similar to yukon golds though not as yellow).

Hope to see you at the Market soon!
