Farm to table lunch, classes and a garden in back

The 4th Annual Farm to Table lunch and Silent Auction hosted by Ideal Green Market Cooperative (IGMC) is Saturday, November 10, 11am-1pm at the Old Milwaukee Club located at County Road 16 and County Road 39 in Ideal Township (Pequot Lakes).  The menu features local goods including pork loin from Fox Farm Pork of Browerville, butternut squash from a co-op member gardener, sweet and sour red cabbage from Ideal Gardens, and apple bread pudding with apples from Red Barn Apple Orchard in Jenkins. The Silent Auction will run 11am – 12:30pm and lunch will be served from 11:30am-1pm.

The silent auction includes: a large size hand-made quilt; local artwork; gift certificates for services; locally made handcrafted items; gift baskets; and more! Cash, check, credit and debit cards will be accepted.

IGMC is in its third year of operation with 300 member-owners and more welcome to join with a member-campaign drive in process.  Anyone who joins between now and end of the year 2018 will have the opportunity to win one of three $100.00 gift certificates to be drawn in October, November and December.  The mission to provide access to local, sustainable and healthy food and products continues to be realized as they grow the local food economy in this rural community.

“By working together, we’ve seen our local vendors grow and expand their production because we are here,” said manager Barb Mann. “People are using their buying power in purchasing good, clean local food from smaller growers and food producers, and it’s having a direct impact on the local economy. It’s very exciting to see such growth in a short period of time.”

Fall-Winter classes are in the works and will include topics such as:  making Elderberry Syrup; de-toxing for winter; making Kombucha; Soup Making 101; Understanding the World of Fats; and more.  The co-op member-owners are also in the process of creating a community “teaching” garden in the back-yard that will feature raised beds (due to current poor soil conditions) of herbs, pumpkins, cucumbers on an arch, flowers and a compost area.  All will be enclosed for protection from the critters.

It is our intention to create an educational garden for all ages to participate and learn about gardening, and provide some fresh herbs, in particular, for the co-op,” said member Geoff Davidge, also an avid gardener.  Children of all ages and adults will be engaged to work and create together this garden of goodness.

Tickets for the Farm to Table lunch & Silent Auction are available at the co-op in advance during open hours (Wednesday-Friday, 10am-6pm, Saturday, 9am-3pm), and will be available at the door the day of the event.  Proceeds from the event will go towards operating costs of the co-op.
